COLLEGE PARK, MD. -
Former University of Maryland women's soccer volunteer assistant Kristen Weiss has been named to the staff of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team as a full-time assistant coach.
"I believe this is a great opportunity for Kristen and we are so happy to see her moving forward with her coaching dream," said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. "We've been very fortunate to have Kristen as our volunteer assistant for the past two years. What she has brought to our program will never go underappreciated. Kristen has an extremely high soccer IQ and a terrific demeanor with fellow coaches and student-athletes. I can only see her doing great things at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. On behalf of our staff and team we wish Kristen all the best."
Weiss moves on to Milwaukee after spending the past two seasons with the Terps, helping guide the team to two NCAA tournament berths, a No. 1 seed in the 2010 NCAA tournament, a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011 and a run to the 2010 ACC championship game.
"If I could use one word to sum up my experience at Maryland it would be: incredible," said Weiss. "It has been an incredible two years to have been surrounded by such remarkable individuals, who not only make up this program, but this university. I have grown tremendously as a coach and in life, and for that I am extremely grateful to the staff and student-athletes at Maryland. I'm thankful for the opportunity to work with such a prestigious program and for all those who made my experience so memorable. I am excited to join the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther family during this next step in my career, but the Terps will always hold a special place in my heart."
Prior to coaching at Maryland, Weiss spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Clemson. During her two seasons at Clemson, Weiss assisted in all areas of on-field coaching with a primary focus on forwards and the team's attack. She also had various responsibilities within the administration of the program, including recruiting and the coordination of campus visits.
Before that Weiss spent the 2007 season working at her alma mater as an administrative assistant with the Virginia women's soccer program. During this time, Weiss assisted in on-campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their families. She also maintained the program's compliance reports in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations.
Weiss played for Virginia from 2002-06, scoring 10 goals and adding 11 assists for her career. She was named to the ACC All-Tournament team in 2004 when the Cavaliers won their first conference title. Weiss competed for the full U.S. National Team in 2001 and was also a member of the U-16, U-17 and U-19 Women's National Teams. She has four caps with the full National Team.
Weiss graduated from the University of Virginia in 2006 with a degree in anthropology. Weiss holds a USSF National "A" Coaching License.
