COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head wrestling coach Kerry McCoy has signed a five-year contract extension, director of athletics Kevin Anderson announced Wednesday. The extension runs through the 2016-17 season.

“Kerry has done a tremendous job of leading our wrestling program to national prominence,” said director of athletics Kevin Anderson. “He has demonstrated a profound commitment to this program's success from the moment he arrived in College Park. I am certain the successes of our student-athletes and wrestling program over the last four years are just the beginning and look forward to even greater achievements in the future.”

Over his four seasons at Maryland, McCoy has compiled a record of 60-17-2 (.772) and is 15-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. His teams have won three ACC titles and he has been voted the ACC Coach of the Year three times. He has also coached three ACC Wrestlers of the Year, six All-Americans, 12 conference champions and 14 All-ACC performers.

McCoy earned ACC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in 2012 after the Terps won 15 of 16 dual meets for a school record .938 winning percentage, which culminated in Maryland's second consecutive ACC championship.

Under McCoy's tutelage, the Terps sent seven wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, which is the school's most since 1990. At the inaugural Terp Awards in May, McCoy earned Maryland Male Coach of the Year honors for his 2012 successes.

In the 2010-11 season, McCoy guided Josh Asper, Mike Letts and Spencer Myers to All-America status, tying the record for the most top-eight finishers at the NCAA Championships in Maryland history. The Terps finished the season 16-4 with Asper earning ACC Wrestler of the Year honors and McCoy earning his second ACC Coach of the Year award.

The Terps tallied a school-record 19 wins in the 2009-10 season including five victories over top-25 opponents. At the NCAA Championships, McCoy coached Hudson Taylor to his third consecutive All-American season as Taylor became the first three-time All-American in school history.

McCoy's inaugural season in 2008-09 saw the Terps win the ACC Championship for only the second time in the past 36 years as the two-time Olympian won his first ACC Coach of the Year award. McCoy and Maryland tied a school record by placing 10th at the NCAA Championships with a trio of All-Americans (Steven Bell, Alex Krom and Taylor).
