COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Senior Olivia Wagner bent a corner kick into the net in the 20th minute to give the No. 13 University of Maryland women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Old Dominion in the Terps' first exhibition match of the 2012 season Friday night at Ludwig Field.
"This was a good start," said head coach Jonathan Morgan, who begins his first season at the helm of the Terrapin program. "Overall, we played some quality soccer and there are positives we will take from this. One of the big positives is that we were able to play everyone who was able to. We need to continue to work on some of the finer points, but it was good to get out there against another team and put together a quality effort against a solid opponent."
Maryland dominated the run of play and outshot the Monarchs 28-4, including 12-0 in the second half.
Redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands made her Terrapin debut in net and made two saves in 71 minutes of action.
Maryland wraps up exhibition play on Monday, Aug. 13 with a 7 p.m. match vs. St. John's at Ludwig Field.
