COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The No. 13 University of Maryland women's soccer team wrapped up its preseason schedule with a 2-0 win over St. John's Monday night at Ludwig Field.

Junior Hayley Brock got the Terps on the board in the eighth minute of play, deflecting a touch by senior Becky Kaplan into the lower right corner of the Red Storm net. The play started with freshman Shannon Collins taking the ball down the left sideline. She played the ball to sophomore Cory Ryan, who used a quality first touch to push the ball past a St. John's defender and then slip a pass to Kaplan inside the six-yard box.

Maryland dominated the run of play, but didn't tack on the insurance goal until the 83rd minute when freshman Erika Joab sent a corner kick into the box and the ball found its way to the feet of freshman Aubrey Baker, who ripped a shot that nipped the bottom of the crossbar and deflect down across the line to give the Terps a 2-0 lead.

The Red Storm put only two shots on goal for the game, both coming in the first half. Junior Shannon Zickler made both saves to hold St. John's off the board during her 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Kristene Mumby and redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands split the second half in net, with neither keeper needing to make a save.

"I thought we played pretty well tonight and at times our soccer was excellent," said head coach Jonathan Morgan. "There are a lot of positives we can take from this game, but there are still a lot of things we need to tighten up. But, overall, we're in a good place heading into our season opener on Friday."

Maryland opens its 2012 regular season at Navy on Friday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md.
