Gymnastics Wraps Up Two Successful Camps

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head gymnastics coach Brett Nelligan and his coaching staff were joined by former Terrapin head coach Bob Nelligan, the head coach of the Bermuda National Team, to host a record 190 gymnasts for the Maryland Gymnastics Camp.
The camp was open to gymnasts of all skill levels and this year included 35 Level 10 gymnasts.
For the first-time ever, the gymnastics program held two sessions. After the first session, which was held July 29-Aug. 2, was filled three months prior to its start, a second session was added for Aug. 5-9.
"We had such an overwhelming response to our initial camp," said Brett Nelligan. "We were thrilled to open a second week."
Being an Olympic year, the staff incorporated a "Terp Olympic Games" where predetermined country groups battled to win the Terp Olympic gold medal. In addition, the camp included gymnasts from three different countries -- Bermuda, Canada and the United States.
"I thought camp went great," said Nelligan. "The team and staff did an incredible job and we had a lot of fun with these great, young gymnasts."
The camp was designed to teach the gymnasts fundamentals and to meet the needs of each individual gymnast. Daily rotations of vault, bars, beam, floor, trampoline, strength, dance and flexibility were included.
