COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Ali McEvoy of the fourth-ranked Maryland field hockey team was named ACC Co-Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday. McEvoy notched her first career hat trick over the weekend and helped the Terrapins (5-1) to two wins.
McEvoy notched four goals and her first career hat trick, and had a stellar performance on the defensive end. Against Dartmouth, McEvoy scored off a corner in the first two minutes of the game and added two more goals and one assist as the Terrpins rolled to a 6-0 win.
In a 5-0 victory over No. 19 UMass, the native of Gilbertsville, Pa., struck off a penalty corner in the fourth minute.
McEvoy also anchored Maryland's defensive unit, which shut out both opponents and held them to a combined seven shots total in the 140 minutes played.
McEvoy shares the honor this week with North Carolina's Samantha Travers.
The Terrapins will welcome No. 18 Boston College to College Park Friday for a 7 p.m. game. Admission and parking are both free. The game is a Black Out game, so all fans are encouraged to wear black. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a Black Out rally towel.
Maryland will honor head coach Missy Meharg for her 25th season as head coach of the Terrapins prior to Friday's game. Please join the Terps as they honor her legacy of seven national titles, nine ACC championships, 14 Final Fours and nine National Coach of the Year honors.
