PHILADELPHIA - Perry Hills threw two touchdowns and ran for one and Stefon Diggs had 135 all-purpose yards to help Maryland beat Temple 36-27 Saturday.

The Terps built a 26-3 lead by halftime on Hills' three touchdowns and a stingy defense. A week after holding William & Mary to 104 rushing yards, Maryland's front seven was even stronger, holding the Owls to 28 rushing yards in the first half and 52 in the game.

Still, Temple made a game out of it in a turnover-filled second half. The Terps lost three fumbles in the half, and Temple got within 29-27 on Chris Coyer's 35-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Fitzpatrick with 7:04 left to play.

But Maryland followed with an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive led by Hills and running back Justus Pickett. Hills hit Diggs for a 38-yard gain on a third-and-11, and three plays later Pickett bulldozed in the end zone from seven yards out to seal it.

Maryland's defense set the tone early, with Joe Vellano forcing a fumble that Demetrius Hartsfield recovered on Temple's first offensive play of the game. A series later, Cole Farrand forced a fumble that A.J. Francis recovered.

That allowed Hills to throw his first collegiate touchdown - a beautiful 22-yarder to tight end Matt Furstenburg early in the second quarter, and later in the quarter a 32-yarder to Marcus Leak.

After a safety made it 19-3, Hills scampered 11 yards for a touchdown with 2:34 remaining despite fumbling the snap to make it 26-3.
