As the 2013 season gets into full gear, the Maryland track and field team participated in two community service events recently.
On Tuesday, Maryland welcomed athletes from the Special Olympics to the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. The Terps assisted them in the high jump, long jump, shot put, turbo javelin, and sprints.
"I actually learned more from the kids than they did from us," junior Amina Smith said. "These events help you to see how you can give back and make a difference but really it goes both ways."
Maryland participated in 'Reading Rocks with the Terps' last Thursday. The Terps headed to Rock Creek Forest Elementary School in Silver Spring today to read with students.
Maryland will play host to the annual Terrapin Invitational Saturday at the aforementioned Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
