
#17 Terps Prepare for Quad Meet at Pitt

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After tying No. 19 NC State Friday, the No. 17 Maryland gymnastics team hits the road again Saturday for the first quad meet of the year at Pittsburgh with Cornell and Temple.
The Terps are coming off their best start to a season after scoring 195.000 against NC State. Junior Katy Dodds set a program record on vault with a 9.975, and was named EAGL Specialist of the Week. Freshman Kathy Tang was named EAGL Rookie of the Week after earning 39.075 in the all-around.
Pittsburgh comes in as Maryland's second EAGL opponent of the season. The Panthers, Terps and Big Red all had freshmen play major roles in their first collegiate meets.
The meet is at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. The event can be watched through pittsburghpanthers.com.

The Panthers dropped their opening meet against the 2012 EAGL Champions, West Virginia. Pittsburgh ranks 22nd nationally on uneven bars and is tied for 13th on floor.
In Pitt's loss to the Mountaineers, freshman Lindsay Offutt won the all-around title with a 38.775. Offutt and senior Alyssa Adrian each scored 9.90 in the floor exercise. The two are tied for ninth nationally on floor.

Cornell opened the season with a third-place finish at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational. The Big Red posted a 48.325 on vault and a 48.625 on bars, but a weak performance on beam led to a 45.700.
Freshman Madeline Martinez finished second at the event on vault with a 9.775. The Big Red had three gymnasts in the top five on bars at the meet.

The Owls also opened their season at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational. Temple finished in fifth place at the event, but finished first on beam with a 48.175.
Sophomore Stephanie Verry led the Owls on vault and floor.
