The No. 15 Maryland gymnastics team travels to Chapel Hill on Saturday to take on North Carolina for the second straight week. Saturday's meet will begin at 5 p.m.
The Terps (4-0-1, 2-0-1 EAGL) beat the Tar Heels, 195.300-194.425, in the teams' last meet at Comcast Center. Maryland gymnasts placed first on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor.
Senior Ally Krikorian earned EAGL Specialist of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after tying season highs on vault and floor against North Carolina. Freshman Kathy Tang was awarded EAGL Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after placing second in the all-around and earning medals on bars and vault.
The Terps boast numerous nationally-ranked gymnasts. Junior Katy Dodds ranks fifth on vault and sophomore Stephanie Giameo is second on beam. Krikorian is 11th on vault and 10th on floor, and Tang ranks 22nd in the all-around.
Scouting the Tar Heels
North Carolina dropped its last meet to the Terps on Saturday. The Tar Heels (2-2, 1-2 EAGL) put up a strong showing on beam, and the team is now ranked 25th nationally on the apparatus.
Senior Elizabeth Durkac was the lone Tar Heel to win gold in an event. Durkac topped Maryland's
Kathy Tang by .050 points to win the all-around, and didn't score under a 9.775 on any event.
