Julie Sinkovitz and Moriah Young led Maryland on day one as the team competes at the Florida Relays and the Duke Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Sinkovitz had a strong run in the 800m to pace the Terps at the Florida Relays, posting a time of 2:08.66 for her first 800m race of the outdoor season. Myah Hicks also performed well in the 800m with a mark of 2:09.40.
On the men's side, Mamadou Niang ran a 1:53.74 in the 800m.
The Terps also had a strong showing in the high jump as Amber Melville and Thea LaFond tied for second place. Both ladies cleared 5'9 1/4" to perform at the top of the field.
At the Duke Invitational, Young won the women's hammer with a throw of 55.64m (182-06) to top the a competitive field. Sonya Napariu placed 9th in the hammer after achieving a mark of 45.80m (150-03).
In the men's hammer, Pat Cole placed fourth with a distance of 55.34m (181-07).
Becky Yep gave the Terps a solid performance for the second week in a row in the 5000m run. Yep ran 17:08.99 to place third overall in the event.
Brian Faherty also performed well in the 5k, finishing with a time of 14:45.72.
The Terps continue action in both meets on Saturday.
