Commitment to Excellence
The University of Maryland athletics department continued in 2011-12 to show its excellence across its vast array of varsity teams.

Highlighted by a national championship in field hockey, the Terrapins were again one of the nation’s most versatile and broad-based programs.

Maryland teams won three tournament championships in the Atlantic Coast Conference as women’s basketball, wrestling, and women's lacrosse earned championships in ACC postseason play.

Nineteen teams earned trips to postseason competition, once again showing Maryland’s excellence in a variety of sports.

Based on its finishes in NCAA national championships, Maryland finished 10th in the final women's Capital One Cup standings. Maryland also placed among the top 30 in the nation among Division I institutions in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup sponsored by NACDA.
