2002 Update:
• Reserve goalkeeper backing up Wilner and Barnhill.
• Drew first start on Senior Night and played first 6:58 allowing one goal on a penalty kick vs. FSU (10/25).
• Did not see any regular-season action in 2001.
• Posted four shutouts in 2002 spring season including 2-0 win over national runner-up North Carolina in ACC Spring Tournament at Wake Forest.
• Has recorded two CD's of her own original music for voice & guitar.
On Scharf: Junior goalkeeper who will compete for the starting position this fall … made great strides during the spring season … allowed just one goal in her spring play … posted four shutouts in the spring including a 2-0 win over national runner-up North Carolina at the ACC Spring Tournament at Wake Forest … very quick player … extremely aggressive … plays very courageously in goal.
As a sophomore (2001): Served as a backup to All-ACC goalkeeper Ali Wolff … did not see any playing time … member of the ACC Honor Roll.
As a freshman (2000): Gained valuable experience as a backup keeper to All-ACC performer Riki-Ann Serrins in her first college season … made debut against Howard (10/11) … played the final 15:25 against the Bison preserving the Terps' shutout … named to the 2000-01 ACC Honor Roll.
Before Maryland: Lettered four years at Falls Church High School in Falls Church, Va. … named team MVP following 1998 season … served as team captain as a senior … earned all-district honors and All-Met honors following 1999 season … Jaguars captured district title in 1998.
Personal: Melynda Greenway Scharf … born Aug. 21, 1982 in Candor, N.Y. … daughter of Lee Scharf … sister of Jud (34), Karleen (32), Martin (30) and Luke (22) … majoring in geography … has produced two CDs of original music for voice and guitar.
