Maryland Beats Providence 5-1 in Field Hockey

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior midfielder Sarah Rosenwinkel
(Wyndmoor, Pa.) and senior Lynsey McVicker (Balleymoney,
Northern Ireland) each scored a goal and added an assist,
leading the third ranked University of Maryland field hockey
team (16-1) to a 5-1 win over eighth-ranked Providence (11-5)
today at the Astroturf Facility.
McVicker scored the lone goal of the first half on a penalty
stroke, giving the Terps a 1-0 advantage. In the second half,
Maryland got goals from Rosenwinkel, senior forward Nadine
Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe) and freshman forward Carla
Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) within a span of 4:31 to take a 4-0
advantage. Providence senior forward Heather Koopman cut the
lead to 4-1 late in the second half, but Maryland senior
midfielder Christine DeBow (West Chester, Pa.) finished the
scoring with 2:27 remaining.
Maryland returns to action on Tuesday at the University of
Pennsylvania at 7:30 P.M.
