On Toole: Transferred from Virginia Commonwealth University … won the 2001 Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship on the strength of a course record-tying 64, first set by Ben Hogan … placed second in the Philadelphia Amateur Open … confident player who should continue to be a big plus for the team.
Fall 2001: Probably the team's most improved performer, Toole played in all five tournaments and finished with a 72.64 stroke average … had four under-par rounds in the fall, highlighted by an opening-round, four-under-par 68 that had him tied for the first-round lead at the Seascape College Golf Invitational … finished the Seascape tournament at five-under-par (68-71—139), which placed him first on the team and second overall … tied for the second-lowest score of the Temple Invitational with a first-round 69 … started off the season strong with an even-par performance (73-71-72—216) at Kiawah Island and followed that up with a one-over-par finish (71-72—143) at the JMU Invitational.
2001: Played in four tournaments, with his best performance coming at the Birkdale Collegiate, shooting an 11-over-par, good for fourth on the team and helping the Terps' to a fourth-place finish … had a season-best round of 73 in the second round of the Wofford Invitational.
Fall 2000: Competed at four of Maryland's six tournaments … finished in a tie for 20th (81-75—156) at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational, helping Maryland to a third-place finish … shot a 78-37—115 at the rain-shortened G. Gunby Jordan Intercollegiate.
At Virginia Commonwealth: Lettered in both years he attended VCU … helped lead team to ninth-place finish in District III North as a freshman and 10th place as a sophomore.
Before College: Led team to an undefeated record of 158-0 during four years at Hempfield High School … state runner-up in 1996 … two-time district champion … best stroke average in school history (72.2) … team captain all four years.
