First Season at Maryland
Bringing a wealth of MLS experience to the table, Terps' assistant coach Jeff Causey is entering his first year with Maryland. He graduated in 1994 from ACC-rival Virginia with a bachelor's degree in history. Causey is a six-year MLS veteran and 1996 MLS champion with D.C. United. Causey also won the U.S Open Cup with D.C United in 1996 before moving to New England for the 1997-2001 seasons. With the Revolution, Causey was a U.S. Open Cup finalist in 2001 as well as a part of New England's 2000 MLS playoff run. He finished his MLS career with a 1.80 goals against average in 89 games played with six shutouts and a 34-43-8 record.
Before his MLS career, Causey was a member of U.S.I.S.L. champion Richmond Kickers in 1995 and earned third-team All-American accolades at Virginia in 1993, the same year the Cavaliers won their third consecutive NCAA and ACC championships. Causey still holds several of Virginia's goalkeeping records including the single-season record for saves (88 saves in 1990) and the career records for saves (249), shutouts (27), minutes played (7,050) and games played (77).
Causey's experience as a coach comes from his stint in 1995 as the Cavaliers' assistant, when the team won the ACC championship and advanced to the national semifinals. He has also been a clinician and instructor for numerous camps and programs.
In addition to his on-field experiences, Causey's record for community service is remarkable. For his involvement in community relations and service projects, he received the Boston Sports Award as the Ron Burton Community Hero and was named the New England Revolution's New York Life Humanitarian of the Year in 2000 and 2001.
Causey and his wife, Heather, recently moved to Silver Spring. Their son, Austin, celebrated his first birthday on August 20.
