On Cochran: Worked his way into the starting role at the “Leo” outside linebacker position in 2002 … strong player who excels against the run but showed a knack for getting upfield in his first season seeing significant playing time … is at a position that is shaping up as one of the deeper spots on the team with the emergence of himself and second-year player Shawne Merriman … will compete with Merriman for the starting job in '03 … posted a 765-pound squat in the spring, best ever by a Maryland linebacker.

2002 (Sophomore): Saw action in all 14 games, starting 13 … lone non-start was due to a hamstring injury ... finished the season sixth on the team in tackles with 69 (41 solo) ... also tied for fourth on the team with three sacks while making four tackles for loss and recovering a pair of fumbles ... (at CU) ... posted three tackles (two solo) ... broke up an option in the CU backfield by hitting Charlie Whitehurst as he was trying to pitch ... the play created a nine-yard loss and nearly a turnover ...
