On Waerig: Second-team All-ACC … completed two seasons at Maryland after beginning his college career at the University of Wisconsin … repeatedly called by coach Ron Vanderlinden, "the best blocking tight end in the ACC, bar none." … NFL prospect … primary blocker for Doak Walker Award candidate LaMont Jordan on option pitch … 1999 co-recipient of Maryland's lineman of the year award … earned mention in 1998 as the winner of Maryland's unsung hero award ... an outstanding blocker and above- average receiver ... a tough, physical and relentless player.

1999: 11-game starter and co-lineman of the year … key contributor in helping guide Maryland's NCAA 12th-ranked rushing offense, particularly on the Terps' option in springing LaMont Jordan for consistent long gains … a favorite pass target of quarterback Calvin McCall … fourth on the team with 14 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown … three games with three or more catches … best receiving game was four catches for 68 yards at No. 9 Georgia Tech.

1998: Started all 11 games while catching 12 passes for 130 yards ? averaged 10.8 yards per catch ? longest reception was 24-yard catch at Duke ? had four catches for 40 yards at North Carolina ? caught at least one pass in each of Maryland's last five games ? had nine catches for 106 yards during that late- season stretch ? enjoyed a solid spring camp, earning outstanding junior class honors ... had a pair of catches in the spring game.

1997: Redshirt season ... sat out while satisfying NCAA transfer regulations.

1996 (Wisconsin): Appeared in 12 games and rushed two times for 12 yards (vs. UNLV) … also had three unassisted tackles on special teams.

1995 (Wisconsin): One of four true freshmen to see action ... was a reserve fullback (48 yards rushing on nine carries) and special teams player ... rushed for a career-high 33 yards and one TD vs. Michigan State.

High School: Graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1994 ... was a two-time all-conference pick (fullback and linebacker) and an all-region choice by Tom Lemming ... totaled 765 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns in his career ... recorded 360 tackles, eight interceptions and seven fumble recoveries in three seasons on defense ... had 175 tackles as a senior and 140 as a junior ... high school coach was Paul Hackney.
