
Terps Finish in Eighth Place at JU Classic

PONTE VERDA, Fla - The Maryland women's golf team finished in eighth place with a three-round score of 912 (310-300-302) at the JU Classic.
Senior Juliet Vongphoumy led the Terrapins and finished tied for second place overall. She shot a three-round score of 214 (73-70-71), the lowest score and best finish for a Terp this season.
“Juliet played great finishing tied for second only one shot behind the leader,” head coach Diana Cantu said.
Alexandra Papell finished second on the team with a score of 230 (80-78-72) and finished tied for 29th overall.
Heidi Baek and Panitta Yusabai finished just behind Papell with scores of 233 (78-76-79) and 236 (79-76-81), respectively. Baek finished tied for 43rd and Yusabai tied for 53rd.
Freshman Kavita Sehmi rounded out the group with a three-round score of 241 (83-78-80), which was good for 62nd place overall.
Coastal Carolina won the team title with a score of 874.
“The team shows glimpses of great golf, we just need to be able to put a good full round of golf,” Cantu said. “I know it will soon click and we'll have a breakthrough event.”
Maryland will wrap up its fall season at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. beginning Oct. 26.
