
#2 Maryland Hosts Rutgers Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (12-2, 4-1 B1G) will host Big Ten opponent Rutgers (6-7, 1-4) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

• The Terps-Scarlet Knights game will be streamed live on the BTN2Go app, which is the official app of the Big Ten Network. • Maryland has won seven straight games over the last three weeks. Most recently, the Terrapins cruised at Princeton Wednesday, 8-1. • Twelve Terps have combined to score 58 goals this year. Maxine Fluharty leads the way with 11 goals. Junior Anna Dessoye has seven goals and 12 assists for a team-high 26 points. Katie Gerzabek leads the Terrapins with 13 assists.
• Anna Dessoye was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday. This marks the first weekly honor of her career and the Terps' seventh this season.
Scouting the SCARLET KNIGHTS
• Rutgers is 6-7 overall this season and is 1-4 in Big Ten play. The Scarlet Knights beat Ohio State, 3-2, Friday, then fell to Monmouth, 3-2 Sunday.
• Katie Champion leads Rutgers with eight goals and five assists.
• Maryland owns the all-time series over Rutgers, 25-3-1 and has won eight straight matchups since 1999. Most recently, the Terps beat the Scarlet Knights 3-1 on Oct. 26, 2012 in College Park. The Terrapins have won all four meetings at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• Third-year Rutgers head coach Meredith Long is a Maryland field hockey alum. Long played for head coach Missy Meharg in 2003 and 2005 and was a member of the 2005 NCAA title team.

• Maryland is ranked No. 2 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches poll, released Oct 14.
• The Terps have been ranked in the top five for the last 18 straight weeks, dating back to the preseason poll in 2013.
• The Terrapins have appeared in the top five nationally in 160 of 165 polls since the 1999 season.
• Prior to the poll released Oct. 9, 2012, the Terrapins had not been outside the top five since before the 1999 season. They were ranked sixth in the Oct. 9 poll.

2014 Team Captains
• Three players have been named team captains for the 2014 season. Maxine Fluharty, Katie Gerzabek and Sarah Sprink will serve as the team's captains.
"Maxine, Katie and Sarah are a talented dynamic, hardworking leadership trio," head coach Missy Meharg said. "The front field, the midfield, the backfield are represented by these NCAA/FIH experienced players. All have been honored by their leagues and all three represented their countries in the Junior World Cup. They understand that the way we train and prepare puts us in position to win championships in November."

• The Terrapins joined the Big Ten conference this year, after playing in the ACC for 31 years. Big Ten field hockey is now the biggest conference in the history of the sport in the NCAA with nine teams - Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers and Maryland.
• The Terps are 86-32-3 (.723) all-time against Big Ten opponents.
• Head coach Missy Meharg is 69-12-1 (.848) vs. Big Ten opponents in her 27 years at the helm of the Maryland field hockey program.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
• The Terps are 134-15 (.899) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 22 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 21-1 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.

• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season. The Terrapins have led the nation in attendance since 2010.
• In 2013, Maryland led the country in attendance with 8,176 fans coming out to see the Terrapins. On average, 629 fans came to each game, which was nearly 200 more than North Carolina's average of 438 which was second in the country.
• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.

Three Terps Selected To Big Ten Players To Watch List
• Junior Anna Dessoye and seniors Maxine Fluharty and Katie Gerzabek were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List before the season started. The full list is at http://www.bigten.org/sports/w-fieldh/spec-rel/082114aab.html.
• Dessoye is Maryland's leading returning scorer, after she notched 13 goals and 16 assists in 2013. Fluharty added 12 goals and seven assists last year, while Gerzabek scored five goals and notched three assists in her 19 games played.
