Postgame Notes: Maryland 38, Iowa 31

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Postgame notes following Maryland's 38-31 victory over Iowa at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

Kicking It Off: Maryland improved to 5-2 on the year and 2-1 in the Big Ten with a 38-31 victory over Iowa Saturday at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Iowa dropped its first conference game of the season and fell to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.

Come-From-Behind: Maryland overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat Iowa Saturday. It marked the first time the Terps overcame a deficit of 14 or more points to earn a win since defeating NC State 38-31 at home on Nov. 27, 2010. The Terps came from 14 down to knock off the Wolfpack.

Diggs Moves Up: Wide receiver Stefon Diggs finished with season highs in catches (9) and receiving yards (130) Saturday. Diggs eclipsed the 2,000-yard receiving plateau for his career and passed Azizuddin Abdur-Ra'oof (1984-87) for fifth in program history with 2,015 yards.

Diggs' 53-yard touchdown reception was his team-high fourth of the season and his 13th of his career. It moved him into a tie fourth all-time with Darrius Heyward-Bey (2006-08) and Guilian Gary (1998-2001).

Over 100: With 130 yards receiving Saturday, Diggs hit 100 yards for the eighth time in his career and third time this season. Diggs' eight career 100-yard receiving games are second most in school history behind Jermaine Lewis (1992-95) with 15.

Off the Bench: Quarterback Perry Hills filled in for an injured C.J. Brown in the third quarter and tossed the eighth touchdown pass of his career, a 53-yard catch-and-run to Stefon Diggs. The touchdown pass came a little over two years to the day of his last TD toss. His last touchdown pass came on Oct. 13, 2012 at Virginia.

Pick Six: Defensive back William Likely intercepted his Big Ten leading fourth pass of the season and returned it for a touchdown, his second pick-six of the season and his career. Likely now has 134 interception return yards this season, which is the fifth-highest total in school history.

Eighteen in a Row: With a 41-yard field goal in the second quarter, kicker Brad Craddock extended his streak of consecutive field goals made to 18, which is also a Maryland record. Craddock entered the weekend with the second-longest active streak in the nation behind Florida State's Roberto Aguayo (22).

Veii Tallies No. 2: Wide receiver Jacquille Veii tallied his second career rushing touchdown and got Maryland on the board with a season-long 23-yard run. It marked Maryland's 26th play of 20 or more yards this season.

Turnover Margin: Maryland forced three Iowa turnovers Saturday, two fumble recoveries and one interception. It is the third time this season Maryland has forced three or more turnovers. The Terps turned West Virginia over four times in week three (Sept. 13) and forced three turnovers in their season opener against James Madison (Aug. 30). Maryland entered play tied for fourth in the Big Ten with 11 forced turnovers.

Tackle Machine: Linebacker Cole Farrand tallied his third straight double-digit tackle performance Saturday to lead the Terps. Farrand finished with 11 tackles against the Hawkeyes after finishing with 17 against Ohio State (Oct. 4) and a season-high 19 against Indiana (Sept. 27). Farrand now leads the Terps in tackles this season with 63.

Find the Ball: Defensive lineman Darius Kilgo and defensive back Anthony Nixon each pounced on a fumble Saturday. For Kilgo it was his third fumble recovery of the season and the fifth of his career. Kilgo entered the weekend tied for ninth nationally in fumble recoveries.

Offensive Notes: Maryland totaled 212 yards on the ground against the Hawkeyes. It is the second time Maryland has totaled over 200 yards rushing this season. The Terps ran for 285 against James Madison (Aug. 30) … quarterback C.J. Brown rushed for 99 yards pushing his career total to 1,524. Brown is the 21st Terp to eclipse 1,500 yards rushing … running back Wes Brown rushed for two scores Saturday and has totaled three rushing TDs in the last three games. Brown has five career rushing touchdowns … wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo caught his first passes of the season snagging three for 46 yards.

Defensive Notes: Maryland totaled four sacks for the second consecutive week … the Terps held Iowa to 116 rushing yards, the second-lowest total for the Maryland defense this season. The previous low was 83 against USF (Sept. 6) … linebacker Yannick Ngakoue added one TFL to his season total with his fourth sack and now has 9.5 TFL this season. He entered the weekend leading the conference in tackles for loss … Darius Kilgo and Roman Braglio each added one sack, while Andre Monroe and Keith Bowers had a half a sack. Monroe now has 20 career sacks, four shy of the program record.
