#2 Maryland Hosts American for Pink Game Wednesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (14-2, 6-1 B1G) will host American (8-7, 3-2 PL) Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Terps' annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness.
• LiveStats will be available for the game. Live updates will also be posted to the Maryland Field Hockey Facebook page and Twitter feed, so "Like" and "Follow" to get updates sent straight to you.
• The Terps-Eagles game will be streamed live on the BTN2Go app, which is the official app of the Big Ten Network. It will be a BTN Plus production and will require an additional subscription. • The Maryland-American game on Wednesday will be the annual "Pink Game" to help raise awareness for breast cancer. A silent auction will take place during the game for fans to bid on Maryland field hockey gear. All proceeds go to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Fans are encouraged to visit http://ter.ps/Play4theCure to donate.

• Maryland has won nine straight games over the last four weeks. Most recently, the Terrapins won at No. 19 Indiana, 8-2, on Friday. • Twelve Terps have combined to score 67 goals this year. Maxine Fluharty leads the way with 13, while Sarah Sprink has 10. Katie Gerzabek leads with 17 assists. Anna Dessoye leads the team in points with 33 off of nine goals and 15 assists.

Scouting the EAGLES
• American is 8-7 on the year and 3-2 in Patriot League play. Most recently, the Eagles fell to Boston University, 3-1, on Friday. Grace Wilson leads the Eagles with five goals and four assists for 14 points this season.
• Maryland leads the all-time series, 39-1, and has won the last 13 straight matchups since 2004. The two teams have played every year since 2002. Maryland is 9-1 vs. the Eagles at home. • Maryland is ranked No. 2 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches poll, released Oct 28.
• The Terps have been ranked in the top five for the last 20 straight weeks, dating back to the preseason poll in 2013.
• The Terrapins have appeared in the top five nationally in 162 of 167 polls since the 1999 season.
• Prior to the poll released Oct. 9, 2012, the Terrapins had not been outside the top five since before the 1999 season. They were ranked sixth in the Oct. 9 poll.

2014 team captains
• Three players have been named team captains for the 2014 season. Maxine Fluharty, Katie Gerzabek and Sarah Sprink will serve as the team's captains.
"Maxine, Katie and Sarah are a talented dynamic, hardworking leadership trio," head coach Missy Meharg said. "The front field, the midfield, the backfield are represented by these NCAA/FIH experienced players. All have been honored by their leagues and all three represented their countries in the Junior World Cup. They understand that the way we train and prepare puts us in position to win championships in November."

• The Terps are 88-32-3 (.728) all-time against Big Ten opponents.

• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 22 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 21-1 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.

• In 2013, Maryland led the country in attendance with 8,176 fans coming out to see the Terrapins. On average, 629 fans came to each game, which was nearly 200 more than North Carolina's average of 438 which was second in the country.
• An NCAA-record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.

• Dessoye is Maryland's leading returning scorer, after she notched 13 goals and 16 assists in 2013. Fluharty added 12 goals and seven assists last year, while Gerzabek scored five goals and notched three assists in her 19 games played.
