
Hanks Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Rookie Carrie Hanks of the second-ranked Maryland field hockey team was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Tuesday for the first weekly honor in her career. This is the ninth weekly honor for Maryland this season.
Hanks helped the Terrapins to their ninth straight win with an 8-2 victory at #19 Indiana Friday. Hanks scored the Terps' second goal when she buried a shot off a rebound on a penalty corner in the 14th minute. The rookie helped lead a defense that held the Hoosiers to just seven shots, three on goal. Hanks and the Terps' defense have six shutouts on the year - the most in the Big Ten.
The Terps (14-2, 6-1 B1G) will host American (8-7) Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Terrapins' annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness.
Admission and parking are free to Wednesday's game. A silent auction will take place during the game for fans to bid on Maryland field hockey gear. All proceeds go to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Fans are encouraged to visit http://ter.ps/Play4theCure to donate.
