Each week during the 2014-15 season, a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is senior Ashleigh Crutcher of the Maryland volleyball team.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Ashleigh Crutcher has been selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week after leading the Terps to their first Big Ten Conference wins in two matches against Rutgers.
After missing three matches to injury, Crutcher returned to the starting lineup last Tuesday and slammed 22 kills on .298 hitting to lead Maryland to a 3-2 victory. The outside hitter also recorded three digs and three blocks, two solo, in front on 1,215 fans in the Terps' first appearance on the Big Ten Network.
With a rematch set in Piscataway, N.J., last Saturday against the Scarlet Knights, Crutcher once again led Maryland to victory. The Raleigh, N.C., native led the match with 20 kills on .265 hitting as the Terps again defeated Rutgers, 3-2.
On the season, Crutcher leads Maryland and is fifth in the Big Ten with 237 kills, good for 3.54 kills per set.
The Terps are back in the XFINITY Center Pavilion this weekend to host Iowa Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 14 Nebraska Saturday at 7 p.m.
