Terps Finish Regular Season Thursday At #6 Penn State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's soccer team (5-6-6/3-4-5 B1G) finishes up its first Big Ten regular season on Thursday, Oct. 30 when it heads to University Park, Pa., to take on 2014 Big Ten regular season champion Penn State (16-2-0/11-1-0). The Terps and the Nittany Lions are set for a 7 p.m. start at Jeffrey Field.
• The match will be streamed on BTN2Go.com and the BTN2Go app, which is the official app of the Big Ten Network. It will be a BTN Plus production and will require an additional subscription. Fans can access all Big Ten content on BTN Plus for $119.95 per year or a $14.95 monthly subscription. A Maryland School Pass for BTN Plus, which includes all Terrapin contests, home and away, on BTN Plus for $79.95 per year or for a $9.95 monthly subscription.
• Maryland is 1-2-4 since the calendar turned to October. The Terps were unbeaten in the first five matches of the month with a win over Purdue followed by draws vs. Indiana, Ohio State, Northwestern and Illinois before dropping a pair of 1-0 decisions at Minnesota and at Wisconsin.
Senior Shade Pratt and junior Shannon Collins share the team lead with six points. Pratt's six come on a team-best three goals, while Collins has a team-best six assists. Overall, 10 different Terps have scored goals in 2014. Junior Rachelle Beanlands has started all 17 games in goal and has a 0.86 goals-against average with six shutouts.

Scouting the nittany lions
• Penn State is 16-2-0 overall this season and has clinched the regular season Big Ten title with an 11-1-0 mark so far in conference play. The Nittany Lions have won four straight since dropping its lone Big Ten match of the season to Rutgers, 1-0, at home on Oct. 11.
• Junior forward Mallory Weber leads the Penn State offense with 18 points on six goals and six assists. Freshman forward Frannie Crouse leads the Nittany Lions with eight goals, while redshirt senior midfielder Emily Hurd is the team leader with eight assists. Redshirt junior Britt Eckerstrom has started all 18 matches in net this season for Penn State and boasts a 0.65 goals-against average with six shutouts.
• Head Coach Erika Welsh is in her eighth season as the head coach at Penn State and has compiled a 131-45-8 (.734) record. Prior to heading to Happy Valley, Welsh was the head coach at Harvard and has a 171-73-11 (.692) mark as a head coach.

133 And Counting at Ludwig Field
• The Terps won their 100th match at Ludwig Field with a 6-0 victory over Iona on Aug. 20, 2010. Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. • With her assist in the Terps' 2-1 win over Purdue on Oct. 2, junior Shannon Collins moved into a tie for 16th on the all-time assists list with Kelly Amonte (1992-95) and Jasmyne Spencer (2008-11), who also had 14 career assists.
Terps In Overtime
• Maryland has played in 106 overtime games in its 28-year history. The Terps' all-time record in those overtime games is 29-28-49 (.505).
• This season, Maryland is 0-2-6 in overtime, including five of its past six matches. The Terps played to a 1-1 draw at Navy on Sept. 8, a 0-0 tie vs. Michigan State on Sept. 21, a 4-3 loss in the first OT at Nebraska on Sept. 28, a 0-0 tie with Indiana on Oct. 5, a 1-1 tie at Ohio State on Oct. 11, a 0-0 draw with Northwestern on Oct. 17, a 1-1 tie vs. Illinois on Oct. 19 and a 1-0 loss at No. 12 Wisconsin on Oct. 26.
• With the draw vs. the Wildcats on Oct. 17, Maryland broke the school record for most ties in a season with five. The 1-1 tie vs. Illinois on Oct. 19 upped the mark to six. The previous record of four was set in 2004, 2006 and 2011.
• The four-match overtime streak from Oct. 5-19 was the longest in school history. The only other season with a streak of even three straight overtime games was 1993 and all three of those matches were decided in the first overtime.
• The eight overtimes this season ties the school record for most overtime games in a season. The 2004 team, which advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, was 2-2-4 in OT, while the 2007 team was 1-4-3.
Non-Conference Success
• Dating back to its 10-0 win over Mount St. Mary's in 2008, Maryland has lost only six times in its last 49 matches vs. non-conference opponents. The Terps have outscored its non-conference opposition 130-31 in those 49 matches.
• The Terps recorded 20 straight wins over non-conference foes before tying Georgetown, 1-1, in second round of the NCAA tournament in 2010. Maryland is now 36-8-5 (.786) in its last 49 non-conference games. The Terps had been unbeaten in 31-straight non-conference games prior to losing, 1-0, at Oklahoma State in the Sweet 16 of the 2011 NCAA tournament.
Maryland In Ludwig Field Openers
• Ludwig Field opened in 1995 and Maryland has enjoyed remarkable success at the venue (see below). But even that success pales in comparison to how the Terps have fared in home openers at Ludwig Field.
• Since 1995, Maryland is an astounding 15-2-3 (.825) in home openers at Ludwig Field. All-time, including the first eight seasons when the Terps played at Denton Field, Maryland is 18-7-3 (.696) in home openers.
• Maryland is 7-0-0 in home openers since 2008 and has outscored its opposition 32-0 in those six matches. Prior to that the Terps were 0-0-3 from 2005-07 with 0-0 double-OT ties against Towson in 2005 and 2006 and Eastern Kentucky in 2007.
• The only two losses the Terps have sustained in home openers at Ludwig Field came in 2003 (a 3-0 loss to No. 13 Penn State) and 2004 (a 2-0 loss to Virginia Tech).
Maryland Picked Third In Preseason Big Ten Poll
• Maryland was picked to finish third in the Big Ten when the conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll on Aug. 13. Penn State, which has won the last 15 of the last 16 Big Ten titles, was picked to finish first, followed by Wisconsin and the Terrapins. Nebraska, the defending Big Ten champion, and Michigan, which advanced to the Elite Eight in the 2013 NCAA tournament, round out the top five.
