#2 Terrapins Sweep Big Ten Weekly Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Three members of the second-ranked Maryland field hockey team swept all three of the Big Ten Conference's weekly honors Tuesday. Katie Gerzabek won Offensive Player of the Week, goalkeeper Brooke Cabrera was named Defensive Player of the Week and Moira Putsch was named Freshman of the Week.

Gerzabek led Maryland (9-2, 3-1 B1G) offensively in its 6-0 win over Ohio State Friday and 3-1 victory over No. 18 Old Dominion Sunday. The senior captain scored the Terps' second goal against the Buckeyes when Putsch passed it to her and she dove headfirst towards the cage for the score. Three minutes later, she found Putsch for a goal. Gerzabek scored again in the 37th minute to make it a five-goal lead, then assisted to Emma Rissinger for the Terrapins' final goal.

Cabrera, a redshirt senior, has allowed just one goal vs. her 24 shots faced over the last four games. She's led the Terrapins to four shutouts this season, including two in the last two weeks against conference opponents in No. 14 Michigan and Ohio State.

This is the third Freshman of the Week honor for Putsch this season and second straight. The rookie added an assist and a goal in the Terps' win over Ohio State Friday. She scored Maryland's key second goal when she finished off a long hit from Gerzabek in the 53rd minute vs. Old Dominion Sunday.

Putsch and senior captain Maxine Fluharty lead the Terrapins in scoring with seven goals apiece. Gerzabek leads the team in assists with 11. She passed the 100-point mark in Friday's game and currently has 106 in her career.

Maryland is the first team to sweep all three awards in the same week since Ohio State did on Oct. 4, 2010. Putsch is the first freshman to win the Freshman of the Week honor three times in a season since Michigan State's Molly Cassidy did in 2010.

The Terps will host No. 4 Penn State (10-2, 2-1) Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free and parking will open in lot 11 after 1:30 p.m.
