
Seven Terps Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Seven members of the Maryland field hockey team were named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Teams released Monday. Anna Dessoye, Maxine Fluharty, Katie Gerzabek, Moira Putsch and Sarah Sprink were named to the First Team. Alyssa Parker and Steffi Schneid earned Second Team honors.
Seniors Fluharty and Gerzabek have earned All-Region honors in each year of their careers. Fluharty finished second among the Terrapins in scoring with 15 goals, including four game-winners this year and was named Big Ten Player of the Year. Gerzabek led the Big Ten and was third in the country in assists with 23 this season. She was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team this year.
This is the third straight All-Region honor for Sprink, who led the Terrapins in scoring with 16 goals this year. She helped lead the defensive unit that picked up eight shutouts this year to lead the Big Ten. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month.
Dessoye is honored for the second straight season, after being named to the All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team last year. She led the Terrapins in points with 43 this year off of 12 goals, including five game-winners, and 19 points. She earned All-Big Ten honors this year as well.
This is the first honor for Parker, Putsch and Schneid. Parker scored seven goals with two assists this season. Putsch was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and scored 12 goals with nine assists in her first year. Schneid added four goals and four assists.
Maryland won the Big Ten regular season title with a 7-1 conference record. This marked the Terps' 20th straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
