
Fluharty, Gerzabek, Sprink Named All-Americans

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Three members of the Maryland field hockey team earned All-America honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Monday. Senior Maxine Fluharty and junior Sarah Sprink were named to the First Team. Senior Katie Gerzabek was named to the Third Team.
This marks the second career NFHCA All-America honor for Fluharty and Sprink, who were both named to the Third Team last year. This is the first NFHCA All-America honor for Gerzabek. All three were named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Team last month and served as the Terps' team captains this year.
Fluharty finished second among the Terrapins in scoring with 15 goals, including four game-winners this year and was named Big Ten Player of the Year. She was named NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and a finalist for National Player of the Year.
Sprink led the Terrapins in scoring with 16 goals this year. She helped lead the defensive unit that picked up eight shutouts this year to lead the Big Ten. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month.
Gerzabek led the Big Ten and was third in the country in assists with 23 this season. She was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team this year.
Maryland went 19-4 this year won the Big Ten regular season title with a 7-1 conference record. The Terrapins made their 20th straight NCAA Tournament appearance – which is the longest active streak in the country.
