
Three Terrapins Named to ECAC All-Star Teams

DANBURY, Conn. – Three members of the Maryland field hockey team were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2014 Division I Field Hockey All-Star teams on Thursday. Senior Maxine Fluharty and Junior Sarah Sprink were named to the First Team, while freshman Moira Putsch was named to the Second Team.
Fluharty finished second on the team in scoring with 15 goals, including four game-winners this year and was named Big Ten Player of the Year. She and Sprink were also named NFHCA First Team All-Americans.
Sprink led the Terrapins in scoring with 16 goals this year. She helped lead the defensive unit that picked up eight shutouts this year to lead the Big Ten. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last month.
Putsch was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and scored 12 goals with nine assists in her first year. Schneid added four goals and four assists.
Maryland won the Big Ten regular season title, the first Big Ten title for the University of Maryland, and with finished with an overall record of 19-4 and a 7-1 record in conference play.
The Terps led the nation in scoring with an average of 4.0 goals per game, in points per game with 11.26 and in scoring margin (+2.83).
The Terrapins made the 20th straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season, the longest active streak in the nation.
