Maryland Falls to Stanford in Foster Farms Bowl

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Maryland received a season-best performance from wide receiver Stefon Diggs and a record-setting kick return from William Likely, but it was not enough to overcome Stanford as the Terps fell 45-21 at the Foster Farms Bowl Tuesday evening at Levi's Stadium.

Returning to the field for the first time since Nov. 1, Diggs was C.J. Brown's top target hauling in 10 catches for 138 yards setting Maryland bowl records in both statistical categories.

Likely also established a new Maryland bowl record returning a fourth-quarter kickoff 100 yards for the Terps' second score of the night. It marked Maryland's first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2012.

On the defensive side of the ball, Andre Monroe picked up his 25th career sack Tuesday night. With the sack, the senior lineman became Maryland's all-time career leader in sacks passing Mike Corvino (1979-1982), who finished his career with 24.

Stanford was led by quarterback Kevin Hogan, who threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Remound Wright ran for three short scores.

Hogan completed 14 of 20 passes. Wright tied the bowl record for touchdowns rushing and the nation's second-ranked scoring defense did the rest.

Without Ty Montgomery on the field, nine receivers caught passes for Stanford. Devon Cajuste (four receptions for 47 yards and two touchdowns) and tight end Austin Hooper (five receptions for 71 yards) led the way.

Stanford led 28-7 at half behind three Wright touchdowns and a touchdown pass from Hogan to Cajuste. Maryland's got on the board early in the second quarter with a one-yard touchdown run from Wes Brown.

Brown closed his Maryland career and the scoring for the Terps with a two-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. Brown finished 15-for-27 for 205 yards and one interception. Brandon Ross led all Maryland rushers with 32 yards on eight carries.
