
Papell Leads Terps at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. - Freshman Alexandria Papell posted a collegiate-best 217 to finish tied for second place at the Briar's Creek Invitational Tuesday.
Papell recorded a 72 in the final round after scoring a 71 and 74 in first and second round action, respectively. She was two strokes behind tournament champion Christina Vosters of Penn State.
Emily Gimpel (79-77-74) and Juliet Vongphoumy (81-76-77) followed Papell with a 230 and 234, respectively. Gimpel took 43rd and Vongphoumy finished 53rd.
Jessica Gregory (239) and Heidi Baek (248) also competed for Maryland.
"Alexandria had a tremendous tournament and we are extremely proud of her," head coach Jason Rodenhaver said. "This is a big step in her collegiate career and it was great to see her perform so well."
Maryland finished in 12th place with a 920 three-round score, highlighted by a tournament-low 302 in the third round.
The Terps return to action April 7-8 when they travel to the Web.com Intercollegiate in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
