The Maryland women's golf team kicks off their 2014 fall schedule when it competes in the 12th annual Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. beginning Sunday.
The 23-team field includes No. 4 Arkansas, Baylor, No. 16 Central Florida, Charleston Southern, No. 15 Clemson, College of Charleston, No. 3 Duke, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, No. 22 North Carolina, NC State, Penn State, Tennessee, No. 2 UCLA, UNCG, No. 19 Virginia, No. 21 Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
Tee time is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sunday for the first group at Yeamans Halls Club in Hanahan, S.C. Yeamans is a Par 72, 6,204-yard course. Monday also kicks off at 8 a.m. while Tuesday's finale will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Maryland's lineup for the fall opener is Juliet Vongphoumy, Panitta Yusabai, Alexandra Papell, Jessica Gregory and Kavita Sehmi.
Vongphoumy, the Terps' lone senior, returns from an All-ACC season. She was named to the Big Ten Women Golfers to Watch List along with Panitta Yusabai and Kavita Sehmi.
Yusabai competed in three tournaments as a freshman last fall season, shooting an average of 77.67.
Sehmi, the Dubai, United Arab Emirates native, will be making her collegiate debut.
Papell competed in nine tournaments during her freshman campaign, shooting an average of 76.96.
Gregory, a junior from Sittingbourne, England who competed in all five tournaments last spring will add experience to the Terps roster.
Following the Cougar Classic, the Terps will return to competition Monday, Sept. 29 at the UNCG Starmount Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
