COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Moira Putsch scored twice as the third-ranked Maryland field hockey team (4-1) powered its way to a 3-0 lead over Drexel Saturday in the 19th annual Terrapin Invitational.

The Terrapins outshot the Dragons (3-2) 26-4 as they dominated the field. The game marked head coach Missy Meharg's 600th as the head coach of the Terps. She owns an all-time record of 475-116-9 (.799), seven NCAA titles, 10 conference titles and 16 Final Fours. Meharg has been named NFHCA National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times.

 

Putsch put the Terrapins on the board 13 minutes into the game when she deflected in a long pass from senior Steffi Schneid from outside the circle. Maryland would take its 1-0 lead into halftime.

Putsch made is a two-goal lead for the Terrapins four minutes into the second half when scored off a backdoor shot off a penalty corner. Junior Sarah Sprink notched the assist on the play.

In the 57th minute, Sprink scored herself when she banged in a straight shot off a penalty corner set up by junior Anna Dessoye and senior Katie Gerzabek.

Maryland will play No. 16 Temple (4-1) Sunday at 2 p.m. and will be followed by a matchup between No. 18 American (3-2) and Drexel at 4 p.m. Admission and parking to both of Sunday's games is free.
