#3 Terps Roll Past #16 Owls for Third Straight Win

Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  –  The third-ranked Maryland field hockey scored all three of its goals off of penalty corners as it cruised past No. 16 Temple, 3-0, to win its third straight.

The Terrapins took 25 shots to the Owls' seven and scored goals on three of their eight penalty corners. Maryland picked up its second shutout of the year.

"Great weekend for Maryland field hockey," head coach Missy Meharg said. "Two shutouts and great goals scored off penalty corners are good things to see. To having the Golf Tournament on Friday and the Terrapin Invitational this weekend, there's a lot going on and that's how it is at the end of the season, so this is all good for us."

Senior captain Maxine Fluharty put the Terrapins (5-1) on the board first when she banged in a shot off a penalty corner, set up by junior Anna Dessoye and fellow captain Katie Gerzabek 13 minutes into the game.

Ten minutes later, freshman Carrie Hanks scored her first career goal off a corner as well. Senior Steffi Schneid took a shot on the play, which was saved. Hanks corralled the rebound and slung it in from the other side of the goal. Maryland would lead 2-0 at the break.

Junior captain Sarah Sprink scored the Terrapins' third and final goal with about 20 minutes to play. Gerzabek and freshman Moira Putsch notched assists on the play.

Temple goalkeeper Lizzie Millen notched 18 saves on Maryland's 25 shots. Redshirt senior Brooke Cabrera had two saves to preserve the shutout and Schneid picked up a defensive save.

Next, the Terrapins will play their first conference game as a member of the Big Ten at No. 13 Northwestern (4-3) on Saturday, Sept. 20 at noon ET.

Live stats will be available for the Terps-Wildcats game, but the matchup will not be streamed online. Updates will also be posted to the Maryland Field Hockey Facebook page and Twitter feed, so "Like" and "Follow" to get updates sent straight to you.
