CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Maryland women's golf team finished 20th at the Cougar Classic on Tuesday with a three-day score of 911.
Juliet Vongphoumy paced the Terps with a final score of 218 (72-75-71), which tied her for 26th in the overall field.
"The first two rounds we had trouble finishing strong and dropped at lot of shots coming in," head coach Diana Cantu said. "Today, we played the last four holes under par as a team which helped us move up a couple of spots in the leaderboard.
"Juliet had a great first event. She stayed patient through today's long day and ended with a 71- one under par round. I'm proud of her performance this week."
Alexandra Papell finished second on the team and tied for 59th in the field with a score of 226 (81-71-74).
In her first collegiate tournament, Kavita Sehmi finished tied for 87th with a score of 231 (75-80-76).
Jessica Gregory and Panitta Yusabai rounded out the group shooting a 242 (77-86-79) and 245 (80-81-84), respectively.
Arkansas won the team title a score of 846.
" We have to be more consistent as a team and in order to do that our short games and mental games need improvement," Cantu said. "There's a lot of work to do but I'm excited because the players are determined to work hard on their games and believe in the process."
The Terps return to action on Monday Sept. 29 at the UNCG Starmount Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
