ROSEMONT, Ill. – Moira Putsch of the second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (7-2, 2-1 B1G) was voted Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this year Tuesday. The forward had three points off a goal and an assist in the Terps' two league wins over the weekend.
At No. 18 Michigan State Sunday, Putsch assisted on Maryland's second goal, which gave the Terps a 2-0 lead at halftime. She inserted on a penalty corner with the clock at zero at the end of the first half and Sarah Sprink scored.
Ten minutes into the second half, Putsch scored herself to make it a 4-0 lead for Maryland when she redirected a long pass from Katie Gerzabek. The Terrapins went on to win 4-2.
On Friday, Putsch and the Terps won at No. 14 Michigan, 2-0.
This is the third weekly honor for the Terrapins this year. On Sept. 16, Putsch was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week and Sprink was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Next, the Terrapins will return home to host Ohio State (3-6, 0-2) Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free and parking will be open in lot 11, the lot directly next to the Complex, after 1:30 p.m.
