The Maryland women's golf team finished in fourth place with a 72-hole score of 909 at the Forest Oaks Fall Classic.
Senior Juliet Vongphoumy led the Terrapins with a score of 221 (75-75-71), which tied her for seventh place overall. Her third round score of 71 was the lowest from any Terp during the tournament.
"The team had great moments during the past two days. We had a really rough start yesterday and came back strong to end the day tied for second," head coach Diana Cantu said. "This morning we had a strong start and took the lead but dropped shots coming in.
Alexandra Papell followed right behind Vongphoumy with a score of 222 (70-74-78). Papell finished tied for ninth place overall.
Freshman Kavita Sehmi finished tied for33rd with a score of 231 (79-74-78).
Jessica Gregory and Heidi Baek rounded out the group, improving as the tournament progressed, with scores of 238 (81-80-77) and 241 (86-80-75), respectively.
"There was lots to learn from this tournament. Our short games are getting better but still need some work," Cantu said. "We had too many three putts which really hurt our rounds, but it's all a process and the team is learning and committed to keep improving."
Elon, Rollins and Jacksonville placed in the top-three ahead of Maryland with UNC Wilmington rounding out the top-five.
The Terrapins return to action on Friday Oct. 3 when they travel to State College, Pa. for the Nittany Lion Women's Invitational.
