
LaFond Captures Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland senior Thea LaFond was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
A native of Silver Spring, LaFond was a standout performer at the Penn State Relays Saturday, capturing the triple jump (42'5.25”) and high jump (5'11.25”) titles. LaFond's triple jump mark is good enough for first in the nation while her high jump mark is t-4th in the country.
LaFond's honor marks Maryland first-ever track and field award as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
MonTayla Holder of Iowa won the Track Athlete of the Week award.
Maryland returns to competition on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Terrapin Invitational.
