COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Angel Gaskin has enrolled at the University of Maryland and will join the Terrapin volleyball team immediately, head coach Steve Aird announced Tuesday. Gaskin is a member of the class of 2018 and will play her freshman season this fall.
“Angel is a physical, left-handed opposite that comes to us with good skills,” said Aird. “She understands what she is getting into and how hard she needs to work to help us out. Most importantly to me, she is a wonderful human being with great energy and a team-first mentality. She will be a very important part of our program going forward. We are very excited to have her on campus.”
A native of Tampa, Fla., Gaskin is a 6-foot-1 opposite hitter from Plant High School. Gaskin helped the Panthers to three district titles while being named player of the match five times. After missing her junior season to a knee injury, Gaskin earned All-Western Conference first team honors as a senior in 2014. She has also been named the Bright House player of the month and Bright House player of the week.
Gaskin played club for Tampa United Volleyball Academy and placed third in the nation with the TUVA 17 squad at the AAU Girls' Junior National Volleyball Championships last year.
