COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Competing in its first season in the Big Ten, the Maryland volleyball team finished the 2014 slate ranked No. 25 nationally in attendance.
In head coach Steve Aird's first season, Maryland averaged 1,539 fans per match, a more than 350 percent increase from 336 the previous season. For the first time since the 2010 season, the Terps played two matches on the XFINITY Center main court.
The Terps set four of the top-10 attendance records in program history during the 2014 season. Maryland drew a record 4,173 fans against Michigan State on Oct. 17 before topping that with 4,522 fans against Penn State on Oct. 23. The Terrapins also hosted 1,238 fans against Indiana on Oct. 3 and 1,215 fans against Rutgers on Oct. 22, good for eighth and ninth in program history, respectively.
Maryland's match against Nebraska on Nov. 1 drew in 1,045 fans to the XFINITY Center Pavilion, the 12th highest attendance in program history.
The Big Ten featured nine programs in the attendance top 25, the most of any league. Nebraska averaged 8,083 fans per match to lead the nation.
