Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – The seventh-ranked Maryland field hockey team (12-3, 5-0 Big Ten) beat No. 11 Old Dominion 1-0, Wednesday evening in Norfolk, Va. to win its 10th straight game over the last six weeks.
Senior Anna Dessoye scored the lone goal of the game when she tipped in Sarah Sprink's rebounded shot off a penalty corner with 15:43 to play.
"Old Dominion is a tough opponent and is always well-organized in defense," head coach Missy Meharg said. "Maryland dominated possession and played a really good brand of hockey. We aspire for more positive outcomes in the attacking part of the field and look forward to working hard on finishing and getting penalty corners."
Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Holliday picked up two saves in the second half to preserve Maryland's second straight shutout.
Maryland held Old Dominion without a shot until the last 10 minutes of the game. The Terrapins outshot the Monarchs (8-4), 11-4 overall and had five penalty corners to four.
Dessoye currently has 49 career assists. Only five Terrapins have notched 50 assists in program history.
Maryland is ranked No. 7 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, released Oct 13.
Next, the Terrapins will close their road swing with a trip to Rutgers (6-7, 0-5) Sunday at noon.
