Associate Athletics Director for Compliance

The Associate Athletics Director for Compliance leads and oversees the Athletics Compliance Office and is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of an effective athletics compliance program including standard operating procedures, policies, and documentation to ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations, and applicable laws. Oversees all compliance areas including amateurism, recruiting, financial aid, initial/continuing eligibility, extra benefits, and playing and practice seasons. Implements and maintains an effective, comprehensive compliance education program for coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, athletics boosters, and university personnel regarding NCAA, conference, and university policies and procedures. Implements and oversees monitoring efforts to evaluate compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies and procedures. Recommends and ensures appropriate corrective actions are implemented as needed. Prepares and submits requests for waivers of NCAA and/or conference rules. Investigates and reports, as needed, alleged violations of NCAA and/or conference rules. Works collaboratively, builds and maintains relationships with all levels of management within athletics and across the university and with external constituents to coordinate compliance activities, accomplish objectives, provide support and guidance, and facilitate the resolution of problems as needed. Oversees, manages, develops, and hires athletics compliance staff, graduate assistants, and interns. Develops and manages Athletics Compliance Office budget and expenditures. Manages and ensures the integrity of responses to information and documentation requests from the NCAA, conference, and internal and external auditors. Performs regulatory research, review, and interpretation as it applies to NCAA and conference rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Law degree or Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of NCAA compliance related experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience required. Strong knowledge of NCAA regulations. Excellent analytical ability, research and decision-making, and verbal and written communications skills. Prepare and deliver presentations, possess a high degree of professionalism, meet deadlines, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate and work in a team environment. Involves some team travel and evening and weekend work. Prefer individuals with experience maintaining a Division I Athletic Compliance Office.
