Terps Tangle With Spartans Wednesday Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's soccer team faces off with Michigan State Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Quick Hits

• Maryland fell 2-1 in double overtime to Ohio State on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Alex Anthony scored the Terps' lone goal.

• Maryland and Michigan State met for the first time last season, a 0-0 draw.

• Maryland has recorded 16 or more shots in four games this season. The squad's 30-shot performance against Yale is the third highest single game shot total by a Big Ten team this season.

• Senior midfielder Maisie McCune notched her first assist of the season against Purdue on Sunday

• Senior defender Shannon Collins picked up her third assist of the season against Yale on Sept. 13. Collins now has 17 career assists, good enough for 11th in Maryland history.

• Collins notched the game winning goal in Maryland's 1-0 win over La Salle. It was Collins' first goal since Oct. 1 2012 in a game against Boston College.

• Collins and senior Kayla Shea have started all 16 games paired in central defense.

• Freshman midfielder Cassie Phillips made her first career start against La Salle and has started a total of eight games. Phillips has played 715 minutes, the most of any Maryland newcomer. Her 15 shots ranks second on the team.

Beanlands Breaks Records

• Senior goalkeeper Rachelle Beanlands has made 73 career starts. The Canadian now owns the all-time program record, breaking Cailin Mullins' (1990-93) mark on Sept. 24 against Northwestern with her 67th start. She also holds the record for games played by a goalkeeper with 74

• Beanlands holds a 1.11 goals against average for her career. That sits at fourth in program history.

Anthony provides a cutting edge

Alex Anthony leads the Terps with 10 goals so far this season. That mark tops the Big Ten and is the 12th most goals in the single season in school history. Anthony now has 12 career goals, which cracks the top 30 in program history. She has made all three of her penalty kick chances this season.

• The Littleton, Colo., native tallied two goals and added an assist against Yale. Anthony is the first Terrapin since 2012 to notch two multi-goal games in a season (Hayley Brock, Becky Kaplan).

• Anthony has created many chances for the Terps this season. She leads the Big Ten in shots with 83. She is one shot away from the Maryland single-season record held by Keri Sarver (1996). Her 13 shots against Yale is the best single game total by a Big Ten player this season and she has the two highest totals (12 vs. Navy).
