Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The sixth-ranked Maryland field hockey team won its second straight Big Ten title Friday night with a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory over Indiana at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. With the win, Maryland (14-3, 7-0 Big Ten) clinched at least a share of the Big Ten's top spot.

Senior Anna Dessoye broke through for the Terps when she tipped in the gamewinner with just over seven minutes to go in overtime. Dessoye finished off a pass from fifth-year senior Welma Luus, the current Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Maryland and Indiana (8-8, 4-3) stayed locked in a scoreless battle throughout the overtime match. The Terrapins outshot the Hoosiers 27 to nine, but Indiana's goalkeeper Noelle Rother made 16 saves to hold the Terps' offense at bay.

In the second half alone, the Terrapins took 16 shots while Rother made 11 stops. Maryland freshman goalkeeper Sarah Holliday made two saves and Luus added a defensive save.

The Terps can win the Big Ten title outright with a win next Saturday at Iowa (9-8, 2-5). Maryland has now won 21 conference titles between their time in the Big Ten and ACC.
