Terps Host #1 Penn State, #12 Ohio State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team returns home for a four-match home stretch, beginning with No. 1 Penn State and No. 12 Ohio State this week.

• The Terps (12-14, 2-10 B1G) and defending national champions Nittany Lions (21-2, 10-2) will face off Thursday at 8 p.m. on the XFINITY Center main court in Maryland's Dig Pink match. The match will be streamed on BTN Plus.

• Maryland takes on Ohio State (19-5, 8-4) Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the XFINITY Center Pavilion. The Terps and Buckeyes match will be streamed on BTN Plus.

penn state match info (nov. 5)

• The Terps and Nittany Lions will battle in the XFINITY Center Main Arena. All gates will be open for entrance.

• Tickets will be sold at the ticket windows outside Gate A, which is located at the top of the staircase on the south side of XFINITY.

• Fans are encouraged to park in lot 4b and the Terrapin Trail Garage. Both lots will be free of charge.

• The Maryland-Penn State match will be the Terps' annual Dig Pink event. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a pink pompom and a silent auction will be held in Heritage Hall during the match with proceeds benefitting the Side-Out Foundation.

• Prior to the match, the Terps will host an ice cream social in Heritage at 7:15.

ohio state match info (nov. 6)

• The Terps and Buckeyes will face off in the XFINITY Center Pavilion at 6:30 p.m.

• Fans are encouraged to arrive early because of basketball traffic. The parking lots surrounding XFINITY are only available with basketball parking permits, so volleyball fans are encouraged to park in Lot 1 and take available shuttles, which will drop off to Gate F. Locations for pickup and parking can be found on the shuttle map above.

• Parking can be purchased ahead of time in the Regents Drive Garage for $15. Fans can purchase parking here under basketball.

• Ticket sales will be located inside Gate D while will calls will be located just outside the gate. Anyone with a valid men's basketball ticket will receive free admission to the volleyball match.

• Girl Scouts will receive complimentary admission and a Maryland Athletics patch. Girl Scouts in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in player introductions and a high-five line.

Scouting the penn state nittany lions

• The Nittany Lions picked up two wins over then-No. 11 Ohio State last week, putting the team on a six-match winning streak. Penn State moved back to the top of the AVCA Coaches Poll with the pair of wins.

• Penn State leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally in blocks per set (3.24). The Nittany Lions lead the conference in hitting percentage (.288) and opponent hitting percentage (.137).

•2014 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Haleigh Washington ranks second in the conference with 1.51 blocks per set and leads the conference with a .456 hitting percentage. Preseason All-Big Ten selection Megan Courtney leads Penn State's offense with 3.18 kills per set while 2014 National Freshman of the Year Aiyana Whitney is averaging 3.01 kills per set.

• Penn State won its second straight NCAA Championship in 2014. Maryland head coach Steve Aird and assistant coach Adam Hughes were both on Penn State's staff for the 2013 national championship.

• The Nittany Lions hold a 19-6 all-time record against the Terrapins. Penn State swept Maryland in two meetings last season.

Scouting the ohio state buckeyes

• The Buckeyes fell to Penn State twice last week. Ohio State is 1-3 in its last four matches.

• Elizabeth Campbell leads the Buckeyes with 3.73 kills per set, which ranks fifth in the conference. Taylor Sandbothe ranks eighth in the Big Ten with 1.16 blocks per set.

• Ohio State is averaging a .237 hitting percentage while holding opponents to a .169 clip. The team is fifth in the conference with 15.03 digs per set.

• The Buckeyes have a 1-7 all-time record vs. Maryland. Ohio State beat the Terps in four sets last season.

• The Terps have proven one of the best in the Big Ten in serving, posting 1.41 service aces per set. Maryland leads the conference in service aces.

• Freshman setter Abigail Bentz is averaging 0.24 aces per set on the season, good for 14th in the Big Ten.

• Senior outside hitter Adreené Elliott leads the Big Ten in conference aces per set, averaging 0.47 (20 total aces) through 12 matches. Freshman libero Kelsey Wicinski ranks ninth in conference play with 0.28 aces per set.

terps set xfinity center pavilion attendance record

• Maryland set a new XFINITY Center Pavilion attendance record with 1,752 fans as the Terps fell to No. 9 Illinois last Friday.

• The previous attendance record was set on Sept. 16, 2006. The new attendance record ranks fourth in Maryland history.

• Since Steve Aird became head coach prior to the 2014 season, the Terps have set five of the top-10 attendance records in program history.

elliott leads maryland in b1g play

• Senior outside hitter Adreené Elliott has posted dominant performances as the Terps continue through Big Ten play.

• Elliott posted 17 kills on .213 hitting and made four blocks against Indiana. She notched a season-high 21 kills and a career-high five service aces against then No. 18 Purdue the following day.

• Against then-No. 9 Illinois, Elliott posted 12 kills and served three aces in the first conference match of the season. The Winson Salem, N.C., native followed it up with another 12 kills and two blocks vs. Northwestern.

• Through eight conference matches, Elliott is averaging 3.96 kills per set (fourth in Big Ten) on .297 hitting. Elliott leads the conference with 17 service aces, good for 0.6 per set in Big Ten matches.

elliott, dion reach career milestones

• Senior outside hitter Adreené Elliott posted her 1,000 career kill against Morgan State in the Terps' season opener vs. Morgan State. Elliott ranks sixth all-time in Maryland history with 1,255 career kills.

• Senior DS/libero Amy Dion reached the 1,000 digs mark at Oklahoma. Dion currently ranks eighth all-time in the Maryland record books with 1,093 digs.

terps face tough road in the big ten

• Maryland has the third most difficult in the nation as the Terps compete in conference play.

• The Terps' conference opponents posted a 114-31 record in nonconference play, good for a .786 win percentage.

•The Big Ten features nine programs either ranked or receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. The conference has four top-10 teams, including No. 3 Nebraska, No. 5 Penn State, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 9 Minnesota.

maryland Surpasses 2014 win total

• With a win over Rutgers, Maryland reached 11 wins on the season, passing last season's 10 wins.

• Maryland began the 2015 season with nine straight wins, marking the team's best start to a season since 2005.

• The Terps opened the season with three straight-set wins for the first time since 1997.
