Maryland-Indiana Postgame Notes

COLLEGE PARK, Md.

Record Breaker: Junior defensive end Yannick Ngakoue became Maryland's single-season sack leader when he notched his 13.5 sack of the season in the first quarter, breaking a record that had been held for more than three decades by Mark Duda (1982) and Bruce Palmer (1978). Ngakoue's record-breaking play was a strip sack, with Quinton Jefferson recovering the fumble (the play was originally ruled an interception).

Ngakoue in the Record Books: Ngakoue moved past Shawne Merriman for eighth on Maryland's all-time tackle for loss list (33.0). Additionally, he currently stands fourth in Maryland history with 21.5 career sacks, and needs 3.5 more to break Andre Monroe's career record of 25.

Ross Breaks Loose: It was a special Senior Day for Brandon Ross, who became the first Maryland player in history to rush for 250 yards and score three touchdowns in the same game.  He is just the fourth player in Maryland history to reach 250 rushing yards in a game, joining LaMont Jordan (306 yards vs. Virginia, 1999), Bruce Perry (276 yards vs. Wake Forest, 2001) and Josh Allen (257 yards vs. Virginia, 2003). He now has eight career 100-yard rushing performances.

Ross in the Record Books: The 250-yard performance also vaulted Ross up the career rushing list for the Terps. He now has 2,375 career rushing yards, which places him ninth on the all-time list, passing Willie Joyner (2,140 yards, 1980-83), Alvin Blount (2,158 yards, 1983-86) and Louis Carter (2,266 yards, 1972-74).

Carter Reaches Double Figures: Sophomore linebacker Jermaine Carter, Jr. totaled 13 tackles in the game – the most since he posted a career-high 14 tackles at West Virginia on Sept. 26. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss against the Hoosiers – bringing his season TFL total to 11.5.

Defensive Notes: Junior Denzel Conyers and freshman Brett Zanotto both posted career-highs with five tackles … Darnell Savage had a career-high three tackles … Quinton Jefferson recovered his third career fumble and first of the season.

Offensive Notes: 11 different players caught a pass for the Terps … Malcolm Culmer caught his second career touchdown … Brandon Ross hit at least 125 rushing yards in the first half for the second time this year (West Virginia) … Levern Jacobs caught a pass in his 13th straight game
