COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Six members of the Maryland field hockey program earned NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region honors Monday, as voted on by the nation's coaches.
Seniors Anna Dessoye, Welma Luus and Sarah Sprink, as well as freshman Linnea Gonzales, were named to the All-Region First Team. Sophomore Carrie Hanks and senior Alyssa Parker earned Second Team honors.
This is the third straight First Team honor for Sprink, who was named to the Second Team in her freshman season. Sprink was named Big Ten Player of the Year earlier this month.
Dessoye was named to the First Team last season as well, after earning Second Team honors as a sophomore. Dessoye led the Terrapins with 18 assists this season. This is the second straight honor for Parker, who was named to the Second Team last year.
Gonzales, Luus and Hanks are first time All-Region honorees. Gonzales was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, while Luus led the Terrapins in scoring with 20 goals this season. Hanks and the Terps' defense notch a school-record five straight shutouts in October.
The Terrapins went 19-4 this season, sweeping the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. They made the program's 21st straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season, marking the longest current active streak in the country.
