ROSEMONT, Ill. – After leading the Maryland volleyball team in kills and service aces in 2015, senior outside hitter Adreené Elliott was tabbed an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention pick, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
The Winston Salem, N.C., native notched double-digit kills in 25 matches this season, including a season-high 23 at Rutgers. Elliott also proved one of the best servers in the conference, posting a career-high 38 service aces. She led the Big Ten with 0.51 conference aces per set, and served a career-high five aces twice vs. Purdue and Iowa.
Elliott averaged 3.54 kills per set this season, good for fourth in the Big Ten. She averaged 0.51 aces per set in conference play, leading the Big Ten. In addition to being the solo blocks record holder, Elliott ranks second all-time with 1,424 career kills and is in the top 10 of four other categories, including total attacks, hitting percentage, block assists and total blocks.
Elliott is the first Terp from volleyball to earn season honors from the Big Ten.
Freshman setter Abigail Bentz was also honored as Maryland's Sportsmanship Award recipient. Bentz was a versatile player for the Terps in her first season, seeing time at setter, defensive specialist and outside hitter.
Maryland played its most difficult schedule in 2015 as the Terps faced 15 teams that were either ranked or received votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll at the time of competition. The Terps posted 15 wins in 2015, five more than the previous year, and five conference wins, two more than in 2014. Maryland upset No. 12 Ohio State in straight sets on Nov. 6, marking the Terrapins' first win over a ranked opponent since 2010.
