
Big Ten Champs Honored at Men's Hoops Game

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland field hockey team was honored at halftime of the men's basketball game vs. Indiana Wednesday for winning the first-ever Big Ten Championship in school history.
The Terrapins won the first Big Ten title in school history as they won the regular season back in November. They ended the season with a record of 19-4 and a conference record of 7-1.
Senior Maxine Fluharty was named Big Ten Player of the year, junior Sarah Sprink was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Moira Putsch was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Missy Meharg was named Big Ten Coach of the Year and NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year.
Seven Terps were named to the All-Big Ten teams, including Fluharty, Sprink, Putsch, Brooke Cabrera, Katie Gerzabek and Anna Dessoye. Fluharty, Gerzabek and Sprink were voted NFHCA All-Americans.
The Terrapins went on a 14-game win streak during the season to win the Big Ten regular season championship. They made their 20th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, which is the longest active streak in the country.
