Douty Earns B1G Defensive Player of the Week Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior Megan Douty earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team defeat No. 2 North Carolina, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Douty led the Terrapin defense as Maryland (2-0) took down the Tar Heels, 13-11, Sunday afternoon. The Fair Haven, N.J., native posted four ground balls and caused three turnovers in the game. The Terps held the Tar Heels to 11 goals and 16 shots in the contest. North Carolina came into the game averaging 16.33 goals per game and 36.7 shots per game.
Attacker Selena Lasota (Northwestern) was named the conference's Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week.
This is Maryland's first-ever defensive honors in the Big Ten. Last week, Zoe Stukenberg earned Offensive Player of the Week while Megan Whittle was named Freshman of the Week.
The Terps travel to Hempstead, N.Y., on Saturday, Feb. 28, to play Hofstra. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
